File this under it took a pandemic. Truth be told, I’ve been longing for the time and motivation to get back to this. And along with that, some quality content. Well, despite the pandemic, I’m struggling to have the time but I am trying my best to make the time. And after a long drought of cooking motivation I was re-inspired by a cookbook I received as a Christmas gift.
After taking a quick peek at it, I set it aside while I travelled to Ireland on Christmas Day until New Year’s Eve. It was a quick trip but we fit a lot in and I got lots of quality time with these quality people.
New Year’s Eve was spent fresh off a plane and an evening alone. I settled in to enjoy my quiet time while binge watching You, a chilled rose, and reading my new cookbook. I immediately bookmarked about every single recipe. And I was craving some downtime to dig in deeper. No such luck, as back to work I went.
The weekend rolled around and I was finally able to dig into my new cookbook, and a cookbook I bought for my husband (aka known as for me). It was Quickly apparent this was the catalyst I needed to get back in the kitchen in a meaningful way. This cookbook was my muse!
The past several years I was cooking from necessity and not so much joy. These recipes have taught me to slow down, enjoy the kitchen time again, and enjoy the creations. Create a complete separation from work stress. A cue to relax and use my time off to recharge.
The cookbook is Nothing Fancy by Alison Roman. Ironically the subtitle is, in fussy food for having people over. While that is not happening, I will be well prepared post-pandemic. If you don’t have this book, I advise you get it!
Anyway, here’s to sharing a long streak of recipes from this most amazing cookbook. I’m embarrassed it took me so long to have this cook on my radar. I am hardly alone in fawning over this cookbook. Alison Roman is unequivocally the domestic goddess of this pandemic.
I was so excited when I got an email notification that you posted! I will definitely have to check that cookbook out – love that you are finding joy in your kitchen again!
