Finally managed to get a few more books under my belt. Just in the time for book club, though we’ve taken the book out of book club and are calling it was it is, girls night out also dubbed thirty Thursday.
Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
I loved this book! Quirky and witty characters and a story I didn’t want to end. An entertaining read that I looked forward to reading. Highly recommend if you are looking for a fun book.
I saw a lot of reviews and references to this book — a few people mentioned it to me too. Decided to give it a read. It was interesting, had some interesting views on wheat’s effect on the body and behavior and lots of details on how modern wheat is a new form from years past. Most interesting to me is how it impacts blood sugar. I have avoided wheat for a few weeks (with the exception of a couple of nights) and I could definitely feel a difference, I didn’t feel the highs and lows (even more so than just a straight up low carb diet). Certainly no miracle cure and I wouldn’t commit to it 100% percent, both worth keeping an eye on how much (and sources of) wheat I eat.
Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed
All the hype ruined this one for me. It was a good book don’t get me wrong, but I had higher expectations.
I’ve managed to work my way through all my books, I need to get a new pile on the nightstand.
You read three books? Good job. I’m lucky if I read two books a year! I wish I could take the train to work again.
The train is my reading room!
I’ve heard stuff about the Wheat Belly before – some of my blog readers swear by it and send me emails telling me it will “cure” my diabetes if I changed my eating habits. Pretty sure my pancreas stopped working a long time ago!
While it has made me feel better, I’d say any diet that requires eliminating something 100% is going to fail me.
