August was a blur, seriously. I guess time flies when you are having fun. Between vacation, catching up from vacation, and getting my daughter ready for school I only got one book read in August. Lame. At least it was a book I enjoyed.
A Visit from the Goon Squad is the first book I read by author Jennifer Egan. It caught my eye when I went to Border’s to check out the deals. which was actually a depressing trip. It is sad to see all the stores closing and it felt a bit strange to be looking to gain from their loss. The deals were not that great but I think they have since increased the discounts.
Anyway, this book jumps around in time and character and all the seven degrees of separation between the characters. Rock and roll is the backdrop to the inevitability of getting old. Time is a goon. The story ends in the future with some interesting predictions on the future of music and social media. Fun read. It is actually like a bunch of short stories that in the end all connect. Surprising I would like it since I hate reading short stories. I am going to check out a few of this author’s other books, but first I have a huge back log of reading to catch up on. Hope September is a bit more productive and isn’t such a blur.
Hope your are settled in your back to school routine – this weather has been amazing!
