Oh what beautiful day, I’ve got a wonderful feeling, everything’s going my way!
Indeed it did. The weather Sunday morning could not have been more perfect for the Chicago Half Marathon. I was VERY happy with my finish and the race experience as a whole. The logistics worked out great, taking the Metra was the way to go. The start was quick, took under 3 minutes to cross the start line. The course was scenic and wide, and I love when it double backs so you can watch the elite runners on their way to the finish. Amazing athleticism. Last but not least, it was of course fun to have the shout out at the beginning of the race and get started with my song of choice.
After the last half marathon I was really determined to make my goal time. I did it, actually I ran it 11 minutes faster. I felt great the whole time, never had to stop to walk. Just a little snafu with the undergarments. My running underwear seemed to have lost all elasticity overnight. I had to stop at the set of Porta Johns about a 1/2 mile and toss them. My sports bra did me wrong too. Again! I even used Body Glide this time. The band at the bottom rubbed me painfully raw, as it did during the August half marathon. Time to shop for a new one, which is shame and a pain to have to find after years of using Champion bras when running.
Overall a great weekend. The race gang flew in for the race, and the local sister joined the team.
Carb loading a plenty!
We finished off the weekend with even more fun complete with family, friends, beers, baggo, and a really early bedtime.
Next on the race docket, Hot Chocolate 15k, the sweetest race in Chicago!
way to hyperlink to the sports bra in question …
All in the name of saving someone from the same pain! Did I mention I spent $20 on bandages, serious injury.
We had a great time with you guys. We should know better than to try to keep up with you, tho.
Your time would have been even better without the portapotty stop. Sue the bra company!
