December, really? UGH! Flash back to Thanksgiving, a whole week ago…
We enjoyed a delicious dinner at my sister’s house with her family and our friends. It was fun and we tried a menu that was not so traditional. The turkey was grilled on the grill and was so juicy. The resulting gravy was smokey and rich, I even ate it some which I never do. Side dishes included chorizo dressing, oyster stuffing, pumpkin gratin – delicious and souffle like (with real pumpkin, thanks Leah). I made Brussel sprouts again, a hot dish this year. Brussel Sprouts with Fennel and Cider Cream.
I liked that the vegetables were pan roasted instead of oven roasted. I was unsure how the dried cranberries would work and was pleasantly surprised at how good they were in the dish.
I was on the hook for bread too. Decided on homemade crescent rolls.
Mine were not as pretty, but they tasted great. Perhaps I did not use enough butter. They were really easy, no excuse not to make these in place of the store bought.
I made way too much of both, guess I am used to cooking for a larger Thanksgiving crowd. To keep things in check I planned a workout early in the morning for Friday. It was good to get up early and come home to refuel with leftovers, Brussels Sprout hash…
Pan roast the sprouts to heat through and get crispy, top with an egg, add a roll on the side. Good eats!
That sounds like a really interesting Brussel sprout dish – cider cream? Yum! And fennel I can imagine playing off the sprouts really well 🙂
Cream and bacon, can’t go wrong.
That is one impressive pan of Brussel Sprouts. Looks delicious! I remember Brussel Sprouts being the most hideous food ever when I was a child. Now I they are one of my favorite vegetables. I’ve run across so many incredible recipes on the internet.
I think your crescent rolls look great!
I hated sprouts too, and now go out of my to eat them. I was just making them wrong I guess.
My SIL and MIL adore brussel sprouts – they are, um, growing on me?
I ran at lunch today in 39 degree weather (didn’t feel like it though) 2.88 miles in 33 minutes – not bad!
Great job on the run. I woke up at the crack ass of dawn for a workout. I’ll never feel like doing that, but always feel better in the end.
